In Episode 23 of Samurai Champloo
Sakami Manzou starts up this episode with another futuristic narration, this time about the sport of baseball. Currently, Japanese players have enjoyed a lot of success in the American Major League but the first Japanese players weren't just playing to succeed. They were playing for the sake of the whole country. The stadium shown in the opening montage accompanying this narration is Dodger Stadium, and the players shown are Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners, Hideki Matsui of the New York Yankees, Hideo Nomo of the Los Angeles Dodgers (depicted with the wrong number, 19, instead of his number 16 with the Dodgers; player now retired), and Kazuo Matsui of the New York Mets (now with the Houston Astros), all well-known Japanese players active in the American Major Leagues at the time the show was released.
